TASTE
Rich and concentrated with notes of blackcurrant, plum and black cherry. Toasty oak picks up hints of mocha and espresso. Well balanced, with a touch of mineral and rich concentrated fruit flavours.

PRESS
“a dense ruby/purple color, a beautiful, sweet kiss of pure blackcurrant fruit, licorice and forest floor. Full-bodied, but with creamy texture, sweet, beautifully integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol, this is an impressively well-crafted wine that’s drinkable now, but should evolve nicely for another 15-20 years.” – 94 points, The Wine Advocate, December 2015

PRODUCER
Antica – the name stands for Antinori California – is the result of Piero Antinori’s forty-year passion for Napa. The vineyards lie in a secluded spot high above the Napa Valley to the west, and are an important source for a number of famous brands. The pick of the crop, however, is used for the Antica label itself.

VINEYARD
These vineyards are planted up to an elevation of 550 metres on the steep slopes of Atlas Peak Mountain with excellent air movement in the well-drained, volcanic soils. The grapes came from up to 23-year-old vines from fourteen vineyard blocks that each have their own identifiable qualities. High density vine spacing ensures low production of fruit per vine. Vine rows are aligned to achieve ideal sun exposure. Vines are trained low to the ground to take advantage of radiant heat from the volcanic rock and soils. Finally, the ideal rootstock and clones of Cabernet Sauvignon were chosen to complement Antica’s terroir ensuring the best fruit expression. The grapes were picked in the cool of the morning between September 12th and October 24th.

WINERY
The clusters were destemmed and individual berries selected. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks over 10-14 days. After fermentation, the wine was racked into French oak barrels (forty percent new wood) where malolactic fermentation took place. After sixteen months in barrel, the best lots were selected, blended and bottled on the estate.
