TASTING NOTES
"The 2009 Extra-Brut Aÿ Vauzelle Terme, 100% Pinot Noir from a south-facing slope, is surprisingly ethereal in its first impression, before the natural power of the vintage makes itself felt. Mirabelle, crushed flowers, spice, mint and sweet dried cherry add pretty shades of nuance. The personality of Pinot from Aÿ comes through loud and clear. Disgorged May 2019 and bottled with no dosage. 95 points

This Champagne is part of the recent Lieux-Dits line by Jacquesson, and as such is considered among the most precious single-parcelled wines of the Domaine. The Blanc de Noirs Vauzelle Terme is a Pas-Dosé Champagne composed of 100% Pinot Noir grapes harvested by the same-name lieu-dit located in the village of Aÿ. Decidedly elegant and yet infinite Champagne.

Of the 2009 vintage were produced 2,522 bottles and 155 magnums were produced.

PRODUCER
Founded in 1798 and still pushing boundaries today, Jacquesson is one of the oldest and yet most innovative houses in Champagne. It is owned and run by brothers Jean-Herv. and Laurent Chiquet,
who in the early 2000s pioneered the idea of a numbered non-vintage cuv.e, freeing themselves from the constraint of consistency, and permitting instead the pursuit of excellence above all else. With that change came increased transparency: grape sources, disgorgement date, dosage and production volumes were displayed on the back label, affording consumers an insight into the wine that other champagne houses have since adopted.

Around eighty percent of the house’s needs are supplied by its own vineyards, and the whole approach is much closer to that of the conscientious grower than the large négociant. Low yields, careful pressing, stringent selection, fermentation in large oak casks, prolonged lees ageing, minimal dosage, and the absence of fining, filtration and artificial cold stabilisation together account for wines of spectacular vinosity, complexity and finesse.

VINEYARD
Produced from a parcel of only 30 ares, planted in 1980 with only 2500 vines of Pinot Noir. The parcel is on a slope, facing south, with a very clayey alluvial soil over blocks of Campanian era chalk. The grapes were harvested in September 2009.

WINERY
Vinified and matured in barrels then bottled without filtration, this Champagne received a dosage of 1.5 gr/l, was aged 9 years on its lees, and was disgorged in April 2019.
