TASTING NOTES
A beautiful, clear golden colour. Complex, vinous, dense bouquet, brioche notes, buttery pastries, ripe red berries, spicy touches. An attractive wine on the palate: dense, a direct attack, a full body, tasty substance, slightly toasted notes, a pleasantly fruity finish.
PRODUCER
Founded in 1798 and still pushing boundaries today, Jacquesson is one of the oldest and yet most innovative houses in Champagne. It is owned and run by brothers Jean-Herv. and Laurent Chiquet,
who in the early 2000s pioneered the idea of a numbered non-vintage cuv.e, freeing themselves from the constraint of consistency, and permitting instead the pursuit of excellence above all else. With that change came increased transparency: grape sources, disgorgement date, dosage and production volumes were displayed on the back label, affording consumers an insight into the wine that other champagne houses have since adopted.
Around eighty percent of the house’s needs are supplied by its own vineyards, and the whole approach is much closer to that of the conscientious grower than the large négociant. Low yields, careful pressing, stringent selection, fermentation in large oak casks, prolonged lees ageing, minimal dosage, and the absence of fining, filtration and artificial cold stabilisation together account for wines of spectacular vinosity, complexity and finesse.
WINERY
Chiquet brothers do not seek to produce a consistent house style but year on year, the brothers seek to reveal the full expression of their terroirs and to make the best wine that each vintage allows. The Cuvée 700 concept is unique in Champagne and is the opposite of a non-vintage wine. Cuvée 738 D.T is based on the 2010 vintage and disgorged in June 2019 with 0.75 grams per liter dosage.
VINEYARD
2010 was rather a difficult year: winter and spring were cold and dry, early summer was relatively fine but the end of the season was cool and wet. After sorting, the grapes presented were in good condition and produced
fine, elegant, fresh wines especially in the Chardonnays. The final blend was 61% Chardonnay, 18% Pinot Noir and21% Pinot Meunier with reserve wines 33% of the total.
