PRODUCER
One of the best loved third growths in the Médoc, Château Kirwan was acquired by an Irish family of that name in the eighteenth century. Before that it had been the property of one of the very first négociants, Sir John Collingwood, whose daughter married Mark Kirwan. After several changes in ownership, the estate was bought in 1925 by the Schÿler family – also négociants – in whose hands it remains today.

VINEYARD
The property is situated in the commune of Cantenac, overlooking the Garonne estuary. The forty-hectare vineyard is situated on the best exposed hills in the commune on clay/gravel soil. There is a particular emphasis on Petit Verdot here. All grapes are hand-harvested with strict selection in the vineyard and on arrival at the cellar.

WINERY
Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After malolactic fermentation the wine is matured in oak barriques (forty- five percent new) for nineteen months.
