Producer
Domaine Trotereau is a family-owned property and has been handed down from father to son for five generations, since 1700. Current winemaker Pierre Ragon has been in charge since 1973.
Vineyard
Trotereau’s thirteen-hectare Sauvignon vineyard is situated entirely within the Quincy appellation, on the left bank of the river Cher. Climate is semi- oceanic and the soils are sandy clay and limestone with gravel. The vineyard comprises three hectares of very old vines and ten hectares of newer vines.
Winery
Grapes were crushed using a pneumatic press and the must was then put into refrigerated vats for a period of twenty-four to thirty-six hours to clarify the juice. Fermentation was at controlled temperatures with indigenous yeasts, and the wine was then drawn off and left on fine lees for up to six months.
Taste
Quincy combines the crisp green fruit flavours of its neighbour Sancerre with a slightly richer, rounder mouthfeel. Trotereau’s is a classic, well- balanced example that captures the essence of this tiny appellation.
