Producer
Duc de Breux is made by the company founded by Jean-Eugène Charmat, who in 1907 invented the sparkling wine production method that bears his name. Breux is a village in northeast France, and its medieval duke was one of Charmat’s favourite historical characters.

Vineyard
The grapes are sourced predominantly from the Charentes area to the north of Bordeaux.

Winery
This wine was produced using the Charmat method: base wine was produced with conventional fermentation, and then transferred to pressure tanks along with sugar and yeast. This triggered the second fermentation, and because the tanks were sealed, the resulting carbon dioxide was trapped in the wine. Once the correct degree of ‘fizz’ is reached, the wine is chilled to halt the fermentation, then filtered and bottled under pressure to retain the bubbles.

Taste
Light and delicate, with floral and fruity notes to the fore; fine bubbles and a rounded mouthfeel are complemented by a crisp, dry finish.
