Producer
The Montsant DO surrounds that of Priorat, and offers a similar, rich- mineral style without the excessively ambitious pricing. Joan d’Anguera is a 200-year-old family estate that remains a leading light within the appellation. In 2012, the current owners, brothers Josep and Joan d’Anguera decided to adopt a new style: they converted to biodynamics, sold their destemmer, picked earlier, reduced the amount of extraction and new oak, and sought to produce clearer, lighter (though no less intense) wines inspired by traditional expressions of the DO, before ripeness and mass became all-important. Local reaction has been sceptical, but customers with a gastronomic outlook have welcomed the change. We hope it provokes other producers in the region to follow suit.

Vineyard
All grapes are sourced from Joan d’Anguera’s Finca Planella vineyards. Set on north-facing slopes, they have stony and calcareous soils. The vineyards are certified biodynamic. Harvest was done completely by hand.

Winery
Whole bunches were added to the tank and crushed by foot. Fermentation began after a natural cold maceration of 3-4 days, with no further mechanical extraction. The wine was then aged for twelve months in used French oak.

Taste
Hundred-year-old vines give a wine of great depth, with wild flavours of juniper, herbs and mustard set against a seam of savoury minerality, and a core of beautiful red berry fruit.
