PRODUCER
Lapostolle is owned by the Marnier-Lapostolle family (of Grand Marnier fame), and since the winery’s foundation in 1994 has pursued an uncompromising approach to quality. Their objective is simple as it is ambitious: to create world-class wines using French expertise and the superb terroir of Chile.
VINEYARD
The Rapel Valley has a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, with rain mainly in the winter. The growing season has warm, dry days and cool nights with cold breezes coming from the Andes Mountains. The soils throughout the Rapel Valley are of alluvial or coluvial origin with variable layers of clay and good drainage. Sixty-three percent of the grapes came from Lapostolle’s Apalta vineyard, and the remainder from long term contract growers Rapel. All grapes were harvested by hand in small cases of fourteen kilos and carefully transported to the winery.
WINERY
All the grapes were gently macerated for four weeks to extract structure, aroma and colour. Fermentation with native yeasts lasted for about two weeks and was done is stainless steel tanks at 28-30oC. After maceration a third of the wine was aged for three months in French oak barrels with ten percent new wood.
