TASTING NOTES
Now at optimum maturity, this wine shows the classic proportions and complexity of the vintage, with a supple structure and plenty of dense red fruit.
The Wine Journal – Neal Martin 90/100
“The palate is medium-bodied with gently gripping tannins and cedary new oak to be integrated during barrel maturation. It is very smooth and almost understated on the finish. This should represent a fine, earlier drinking Lagrange.”

PRODUCER
A place of great agricultural activity even back in Gallo-Roman times : from the Gallo-Roman VILLA RUSTICA to the « GRANGIA » in the Middle Ages which was to give the estate its name.
The history of Château Lagrange began with M. Jean Valère Cabarrus, who bought the estate in 1796 and extended it before selling it in 1825. The estate then went through difficult times (war, wine crises and economic recession) and numerous owners came and went. Since its purchase in 1983 by the Japanese Suntory Group and management by Marcel Ducasse, the priority has been on restoring the value of the vineyard and modernising the winemaking facilities. All this has contributed to making Château Lagrange one of the top Saint-Julien wines. Les Fiefs de Lagrange is an ideal second wine while awaiting the first wine, or "grand vin". More accessible, it displays all the finesse, elegance and balance of this prestigious terroir - an essential wine!
Lagrange discovers an early winegrowing vocation thanks to the Templars who join together two domains :
– The « maison noble de Lagrange de Monteil » to the West joins the « Tenure of Pellecalhus » (meaning « peeled stone ») to the East. In the present-day vineyard, the names of two vine plots bear witness to this era, « l’Hôpital » and « La Chapelle »;
– Lagrange becomes the largest wine producing estate in the Médoc. But the history of the different owners cannot be reconstructed until after 1631.
VINEYARD
Located entirely within the appellation of Saint-Julien, our vineyard stretches in a single block over two North-South rises of Gunzian gravelly soil. In parts large and coarse and in others finer, this gravel is combined with sand or iron-rich clay depending on the plot.
With an altitude of 24 metres, the centre of the domain marks the highest point of Saint-Julien. The estate covers 182 hectares (450 acres), of which 118 hectares (292 acres) are under vine. Most of the plots benefit from a drainage system.
WEATHER CONDITIONS 2012
Unusual climate with April and June fresh and cool. July is cool and August very dry with high temperature. September and October reminds us of that Bordeaux is a tempered area with some climatic depressions.
The harvest time was short and started in red on 8th October and ended on 21st October 2012. The blending consists of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 3% of Petit Verdot.
