PRODUCER
The owners of stellar burgundy micro-négociant Lucien Le Moine have a side project: they have bought a number of vineyards in the Southern Rhône. The style is fascinating and unique – very much Châteauneuf viewed through the prism of burgundy. The flavours are of course those of Grenache (white or red), but structurally, in their combination of delicacy and power, there is more than a little of the Côte d’Or grand cru about these wines.

VINEYARD
This wine comes from old vines in a few small plots in the cool northeast of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

WINERY
The whole-bunch-pressed juice was fermented and aged two years on lees in 500-litre barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

TASTE
An arresting nose of grilled nuts, sesame, citrus and blossom, and an equally impressive palate that manages to deliver power and breadth yet retain a sense of grace. Ageworthy and structured, with echoes of burgundy but very much its own sense of style, this is remarkable white Châteauneuf.

PRESS
“A smoking effort that will stand toe to toe with a top flight white Burgundy, the [wine] has tons of matchstick and flinty minerality to go with vibrant white fruits, white flowers, toast and citrus. Deep, rich, medium to full- bodied and concentrated with racy acidity, this blend ... will benefit from short term cellaring and have 15 or more years of longevity.” – 95 points, The Wine Advocate, October 2013

“Very bright, with a piercing lemon chiffon note followed by shortbread, white peach and verbena accents. The long finish has a bright stony edge and a light talc hint that lingers while the fruit plays out. Remarkably youthful and thoroughly distinctive.” – 96 points, Wine Spectator, November 2015
