TASTING NOTES
Intense and full flavoured on the nose with aromas of all types of cherry – wild and cultivated, fresh and cooked – sweetened by spicy hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate shows cherry and plum flavours with the softness and balance typical of a wine made using the double fermentation method.
PRODUCER
This estate was bought in 1353 by the son of Dante “Divine Comedy” Alighieri, and is still owned by his descendants; Masi lend their winemaking expertise. Cool vineyards near the Lake Garda give wonderful richness and clarity to the flavours.
VINEYARD
Grapes are sourced from Serego Alighieri’s vineyards in Gargagnago di Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella. The soil is compact red sediments, with sufficient humus, over eocenic limestone. The vineyards have a particularly favourable exposure.
WINERY
The grapes fermented for fifteen days in stainless steel vats at 24- 26oC. This was followed by racking and malolactic fermentation. About three months after harvest, the wine underwent a second fifteen-day fermentation at 18-20oC using semi-dried grapes of the same varieties. The wine was aged for eighteen months in Slavonian oak barrels followed by four months in 600-litre cherry wood barrels.
