TASTING NOTES
Exuberant apricot, pineapple and floral notes from the Traminer combine beautifully with the body and citrus freshness of the Chardonnay. Subtle toasty-oak notes add complexity, and help the initial richness resolve to a crisp, dry finish.
PRODUCER
The noble Bossi Fedrigotti family settled in Trentino in the early fifteenth century, and made their first wine in 1697. After a seemingly quiet couple of centuries, in 1961 they produced a startling innovation: Fojaneghe, Italy’s first bordeaux blend. In 2007 the family began a collaboration with Masi, who now distribute the wine as well as offering technical support. The Fojaneghe blend remains the flagship, of course, while the range also features blends of local varieties Traminer, Marzemino and Teroldego, each contributing its own take on the perfumed, structured Trentino style.
VINEYARD
The grapes come from the Fojaneghe estate, which lies at 300 metres above sea level in the communes of Mori and Isera. The soil is mostly basalt and limestone. Breezes from Lake Garda bring useful temperature variation from night to day and provide excellent ventilation. The two varieties were picked separately: Chardonnay in mid-September and Traminer in mid-October.
WINERY
The Chardonnay was fermented in new French oak barrels at 17oC, and matured in the same barrels for ten months, with weekly stirring. The Traminer was fermented in stainless steel tanks at 17oC. Following maturation the components were blended and left to harmonise for fifteen days before bottling.
