Producer
For most people outside the region, Maculan is Breganze. Stretching between the Alpine foothills and the Roman town of Vicenza, the Breganze vineyards can easily yield anonymous wines, but such is Fausto Maculan’s determination to transcend the norm that he manages to wring every last drop of character from his carefully grown grapes, be they local specialities like Vespaiola or international varieties that he has imported and planted.

Vineyard
Grapes are grown on a hilly vineyard with volcanic and tuffaceous soils. The final blend is the result of a painstaking manual selection of bunches affected by botrytis (noble rot).

Winery
The wine was aged for two years in new Nevers barriques, followed by a further six months in bottle.

Taste
Extremely rare and breathtakingly concentrated botrytis-affected wine, with spice, honey and dried fruit contributing to a lusciously powerful palate.

Press
“The 2004 Acininobili is a berry by berry selection of botrytised Vespaiola that is aged in new French oak. This layered, opulent sweet wine reveals tons of sweet, candied fruit, flowers, spices and toasted oak. This awesome, thrilling wine needs a few years in bottle to incorporate its oak, but the wine’s potential is amply evident today. 94 points” – The Wine Advocate, October 2008
