TASTING NOTES
Wonderfully aromatic, with notes of raspberry jam, roses, wild berries and citrus. The palate is generous, rounded, yet with a firm food-friendly structure, and great savoury persistence.
PRODUCER
The Prevostini family have been producing wine on the terraced slopes of Valtellina since the mid-1940s. The grandfather, Mamete, made wine from local grapes for his restaurant customers, taking advantage of crotti, the natural caves found throughout the region and which provide ideal cellar conditions. His grandson, also called Mamete, eventually took over the business and spent an eight-year trial period refining the production before releasing the results in 1995. Despite all that work behind the scenes, the wines are wonderfully unforced. They capture the perfumed, silky-textured character of Nebbiolo with great transparency, and are among the most sophisticated wines we have tasted from the region.
VINEYARD
Grapes for this Riserva come from the Berbenno region of Valtellina, west of Sondrio The vines are planted on both sandy and silty soils, which also feature limestone and granite. The grapes were harvested in late September and early October.
WINERY
After a traditional fermention, the wine was aged for twenty-four months in French oak barriques.
