TASTING NOTES
A brilliant Gewurz, the gingerbread generosity offset by limestone freshness; rich rather than sweet, this is pure hedonism.
PRODUCER
The Muré family have been making wine in the southerly Rouffach region since the end of the Thirty Years War in 1648; René is the eleventh generation in charge, and farms both the original holdings and the Clos St Landelin, a 13-hectare plot within the Grand Cru Vorbourg bought by his grandfather in 1935.
VINEYARD
The fifteen-hectare Clos St Landelin is a steep, terraced, south-facing vineyard with clay/limestone soil and a lot of stones. The Muré family cultivate it organically. The Gewurztraminer vines average around forty- five years old.
WINERY
The wine was fermented slowly and matured on fine lees with batonnage. No oak ageing or malolactic was done.
AWARDS & PRESS
“Shows textbook Gewürztraminer flavors of lychee, white pepper, rose petal, cream and candied orange peel. Lively acidity plays off of the honeyed notes, and a smoky thread runs below the surface and along the lingering finish.” – 93 points, Wine Spectator, November 2009
