PRODUCER
The Muré family have been making wine in the southerly Rouffach region since the end of the Thirty Years War in 1648; René is the eleventh generation in charge, and farms both the original holdings and the Clos St Landelin, a thirteen-hectare plot within grand cru Vorbourg bought by his grandfather in 1935.
VINEYARD
Situated at the southern end of grand cru Vorbourg, the terraced Clos Saint Landelin consists of steep south-facing slopes. The soil is clay and limestone with a lot of stones, and the vineyard averaging thirty-seven years old, is farmed organically. All grapes are hand harvested.
WINERY
A slow fermentation in large, neutral casks was followed by maturation on fine lees.
TASTING NOTES
This is a complex wine showing an array of aromas such as honey, spices, apricot and peach as well as white flowers, pepper and rose. On the palate the wine shows great intensity of these flavours, with excellent precision and freshness for the variety, as well as the potential to develop further in bottle.
AWARDS & PRESS
“Bottled since October 2014 the golden-colored 2013 Gewurztraminer Clos St Landelin shows a deep, intense and spicy bouquet of herbs, white pepper and black bread but is still very discreet in its fruit expression. Full-bodied, intense and piquant on the palate this well- structured, tension-filled yet elegant wine is not as concentrated as the 2012 but spicy and nicely bitter in the finish as well.” – 91+ points, The Wine Advocate, September 2015
