TASTING NOTES
Muré has the vineyards, the expertise and the reputation for terrific Pinot, and this is vibrant, savoury and refined, with strawberry fruit, notes of tobacco, and subtly integrated oak.
PRODUCER
The Muré family have been making wine in the southerly Rouffach region since the end of the Thirty Years War in 1648; René is the eleventh generation in charge, and farms both the original holdings and the Clos St Landelin, a thirteen-hectare plot within the Grand Cru Vorbourg bought by his grandfather in 1935.
VINEYARD
The wine comes entirely from Grand Cru Vorbourg, although Pinot Noirs are not permitted to state this on the label. The vineyard is located in the southern part of Alsace, protected by the highest summits of the Vosges mountains and benefiting from a particularly sunny mesoclimate. Soils are clay-limestone soils with loess in some places; slopes are south and south-east facing, and the vineyard is certified organic. The vines average eighteen years old, and were hand-harvested on the 18th and 19th of September. This vineyard is organic.
WINERY
Following a slow, cool fermentation with natural yeasts, the wine spent twelve months in barriques before bottling.
