TASTE
A gentle, succulent wine with a clear red colour, a beautiful perfume of raspberry, paprika and tobacco, and a silky-textured, medium-bodied palate. Rounded and delicate, but not lacking in concentration, this is a great expression of a local grape variety.

PRODUCER
Christian Sauska is a Hungarian entrepreneur who, having forged a successful career in the USA, decided in 1999 to establish a winery in his homeland. In 2000 he converted a historic building in Tokaj, formerly known as the Citizens’ Casino, into a production facility and tasting room. This was joined in 2006 by a new winery the other side of Hungary, in Villány. With red varieties grown in the latter region and white grapes in the former, Sauska is able to produce exemplary wines in numerous different styles.

VINEYARD
This wine comes from a single vineyard called Ördögárok, planted with native Hungarian grape variety Kadarka. It features brown loam and sandy soils over a limestone base.

WINERY
The grapes were given a three-day cold soak, then fermented with a twenty-one day maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine was then transferred to French oak barrels (twenty percent new wood) for malolactic fermentation and seven months’ ageing.
