TASTING NOTES
Carricante, a white grape local to Etna, here gives a fresh, incisive wine with pear, melon and mineral notes. The palate has some textural richness, balanced by lively acidity and an almost salty finish.
PRODUCER
The large Regaleali estate, high in the central Sicilian hills, has been in the hands of the noble Tasca family since 1830. Ever since, the property has been run according to the best principles of the agricultural aristocracy: with one eye firmly on quality, and the other on experimentation. Tasca’s large range is the product of the family’s most successful innovations, including short pruning for lower yields, the championing of local Inzolia and Nero d’Avola vines, the introduction of French varieties, and the use of barrique and temperature control. More recently, the family have extended their holdings to other areas of Sicily, from Etna to the Aeolian Islands, with striking success.
VINEYARD
The vineyard is situated on the northern slopes of Mount Etna near Catania. It consists of terraced volcanic sediment 600 meters above sea level. The grapes were harvested on October 21st.
WINERY
The wine was fermented over twelve days in stainless steel tanks at 16- 18oC, then aged for a further four months in tank. Malolactic fermentation did not take place.
